“When the Gymea Lilies Return”
Inspired by the remarkable Gymea lily, this artwork celebrates one of Australia’s most iconic native plants. Taking 8–15 years to mature and often flowering only every 2–5 years, the Gymea lily’s bloom is a surprisingly rare occurrence.
As I painted this piece, I imagined the Australian bush patiently waiting for their return. The surrounding banksias, wattles, eucalyptus and native botanicals seem to lean in, as though welcoming old friends home after a long absence. Together they create a quiet celebration of reunion, belonging and the joy of seeing something cherished return.
Painted in earthy olive greens with rich botanical details, “When the Gymea Lilies Return” captures the beauty of Australia’s native flora and the connections that tie us to the landscapes we love.
Whether displayed as a statement piece or collected as part of a botanical-inspired home, this artwork brings warmth, story and I hope a sense of home to any space.
